Medicines that are similar to the hormone estrogen, can protect women from bone loss. However, they are not as effective as the bisphosphonates. |

Fosamax and Actonel are taken weekly. Boniva is taken monthly. Take medicine first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. Take with full glass of water. Do not eat or lie down for one hour after taking medicine to avoid stomach irritation. |
