Although riding an ATV, at first glance, may appear to be "second nature," they are very complicated machines, and proper riding instruction and teaching should be completed before operation. There are many different manufacturers of ATVs, and each is a little bit different. As an owner, you should become familiar with the Operating Instructions prior to riding.

Today in West Virginia, there are regulations in place that make it necessary for specific riders to complete an instructional course. Click here to read about the WV ATV regulations. These courses may be offered by local government agencies or through your ATV dealer. You should first ask your dealer about these courses, and they can direct you to information contacts for these classes.

You can find many different resources listed on the Links page that offer additional educational services, information about designated riding areas, and contact information regarding state laws and regulations. Remember - based on rider age and size, there are ATV size restrictions in place, and these should be adhered to for rider safety.
